Walk in the woods

with one comment

"A walk in the woods" - a great book by Bill BrysonDale took us on a walk to a couple of Hamilton’s waterfalls.¬† We saw Tews falls and Webster falls. In my googling to remind myself of the names of these falls, I learned that Hamilton is the waterfall capital of the world!

Rock Toss

with 3 comments

There's something exciting about watching a good storm from a cottage.

A picture from the Tobermory cottage. We were out watching the sunset and waiting for a storm to come in. Mathew would throw a large rock into the air while Jon attempted to hit them in mid-air with a smaller ones.

You're in the trustache zone.

I was moved by the multitude of messages for Jack Layton at Nathan Philips Square. Your vision lives on Jack.

Lightning

Shouldn't lightning be scarrier?

It took us half an hour of taking 30 second long exposures to capture this one strike from last night’s light show. I was thankful for the weather proofing on my camera as it was getting rather wet.

SailCanoe

It’s a little hard to make out, but we lashed a couple of canoes together and attempt to use a tarp as a sail. We take the SailCanoe out twice in the video. Neither time was successful…not enough wind. The clouds look neat though…

Can you find the big dipper?

We had a few really clear nights at the cottage this year.

Fire Spinning

You can see the strong winds were blowing the sparks off to the right of the image.

Another fire spinning photo. Tonight was very windy so the effect wasn’t the same.

Here’s how it was shot.

Steel wool is my new favorite thing...

Take some steel wool, put it in a whisk and spin the whisk on a wire after lighting it. Voila.
