Lakshmi Puja

I'll be honest. I have no idea what any of the items in the photo symbolize.

Lakshmi is one of many Hindu symbols of god. She represents material and spiritual wealth and prosperity. My Pishi (aunt) performs a religious ceremony called a puja in her honour every year at the end of October.

  1. I’ve always wondered…does anyone eventually eat the treats left behind for these idols (donated to the poor or something) or do they just get tossed out?…or does the deity herself show up in the night and pig out Santa Claus style?

    • Treats are normally distributed to attendees. It’s usually a ridiculous amount of sweets.
